Arsenal fans on Twitter have been left confused and concerned by the club’s plans to reward Matteo Guendouzi with a new contract that will see the central midfielder nearly double his current £40,000 per week wages.
The France U21 international has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Unai Emery, playing 47 times for the Gunners including 33 Premier League appearances.
Signed from Ligue 2 side Lorient in the summer of 2018, Guendouzi immediately earned starting consideration at Arsenal and has continued to remain a crucial part of Emery’s plans throughout his maiden season, leading to the plans for a huge new contract offer according to The Sun.
Guendouzi’s current deal runs until 2022, but the Gunners are hoping that a new contract would tie him down until 2023.
Despite a positive first season at the Emirates, Arsenal fans have been left stunned and confused at the club’s intention to reward a player as unproven and inexperienced as Guendouzi with a massive new contract.

Here we go again. Loads of potential, Started great but he got awful 2nd half of the season. Haven't they learnt anything from awarding bang average players huge contracts?

Looking at matteo playing, he cannot get any quicker, wants to be a play maker, but cannot protect the ball or move pass a opponent, can’t shoot, but has a decent pass. I can not see him improving, therefore should not be granted a raise until improvements are seen

This is how Denilson, Bendtner and all the lads all ended up on massive wages after showing promise. Wait another year Arsenal

Would of waited another season to see if he’s a flash in the pan. Played to many games this season in my opinion

Sorry what impressive first season? What has he done to gain this reward? Can’t see it. No wonder club is going backwards

These were the type of decisions that got us in the mess we are in right now
could’ve waited atleast another 6 months to see if he is even worth it? he is yet to register a goal/assist OR give a certain memorable performance in his role
God plz give some sense to my dumb club pic.twitter.com/DwLWkR16Dg

Far too much.
Great potential but one season. This is silly

Too quick to offer such praise for someone who is still a very ‘sideways’ player

Way too early. Let him work for it!!! He’ll be less hungry now with this pay rise. Stupid move by Arsenal
