This may not be a hugely shocking development given the fact that Wayne Rooney has been linked to his boyhood club Everton numerous times in the British media, but it seems as though the transfer is edging closer.

The Sun report that the Manchester United captain could seal his return to Goodison Park this week, alongside Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.

The publication claims that a deal is all but done for Rooney to become an Everton player 13 years after leaving them for United.

It is believed that the forward had no interest in uprooting his family to China to play in the lucrative league in the Far East, and he did not receive any offers from MLS in America.

Rooney came through the ranks at Everton, eventually bursting onto the scene at the age of 16, but he spent two years in the first team before signing for United.

Now, The Sun claims that the 31-year-old will go back to Everton on a two-year deal with the option of a further year, and will be earning £250,000 a week.

As expected, Everton fans have been giving their reaction to the news.
