West Ham fans are desperate to sign Jermaine Defoe

Sunderland AFC have been relegated and such is the cut-throat world of football that rival fans are already circling the club like vultures hoping to pick off key players that might fit in at their sides.

Despite crashing into the Championship, there are a number of decent players at the club and for West Ham United fans, one man in particular fits the bill; Jermain Defoe.

The striker is of course a Hammers player and left the club over 10 years ago in rather acrimonious circumstances that didn’t exactly endear him to the Irons’ support.

Since then he’s become a reliable English Premier League hitman, capable of scoring barrel loads of goals every single season.

Despite his advancing age, 34, he did that again this term, scoring 14 goals for the Black Cats. Ultimately it wasn’t enough to keep Sunderland up but that’s firepower that would go down very well at the Hammers.

Slaven Bilic’s side have lacked that player with a poacher’s instinct all season. Is Defoe the answer?

Following the Black Cats’ relegation, West Ham fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
