According to reports in The Sun, West Ham United missed out on a transfer deadline day deal to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Andre Schurrle, but Irons fans don’t seem to be too disappointed at the news.
The Sun says that the former Chelsea man was keen on a return to the Premier League after struggling to make an impact for the Bundesliga giants – he has scored five goals and provided a further four assists in 26 appearances in all competitions – and a loan deal with an obligation to buy the Germany international for £26m was put to the Hammers 24 hours before the window slammed shut.
However, the report adds that the owners took their off the ball on deadline day because of the situation involving Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho, and missed out on bringing Schurrle to the London Stadium as a result.
West Ham supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, and while some don’t believe that the story is true, others are glad the club didn’t sign him.
