Reece Oxford finally made his Borussia Monchengladbach debut on Saturday as the on-loan West Ham United centre-back played the final minute of the clash with Hoffenheim.

Oxford joined Gladbach on loan during the summer, but has struggled to earn a spot in the German outfit's first team during the early stages of the 2017-18 campaign.

The 18-year-old has made 14 first-team appearances for West Ham, but only two of those came last season, where he also spent time on loan at Championship club Reading.

The decision to send Oxford on loan to Germany came as a surprise to a number of the West Ham fans, and it would be fair to say that many are still struggling to understand the point of the loan spell.

Indeed, whilst West Ham's defence is struggling in the Premier League, Oxford, who is valued at £4.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, is spending the majority of his time on the bench for Gladbach.

On Monday, West Ham's official Twitter account congratulated Oxford for his Bundesliga debut, but a large number of the club's supporters want the teenager back at the London Stadium.
