Reports in The Mirror on Wednesday suggest that West Ham United are targeting Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez if they decide to sack Slaven Bilic at the end of the season.

The Irons have endured a disappointing campaign with their team and fans struggling to adapt to life at the London Stadium, and the results on the pitch have mirrored that.

The club’s hierarchy will decide on Bilic’s future in the summer, but having lost their last three Premier League matches and with no clean sheets in their previous eight, the Croatian may need a positive end to the campaign in order to save his job.

If he does go, then the Hammers could return for Magpies chief Benitez, who came close to being appointed as manager of the east London outfit before he joined Real Madrid.

Irons fans were quick to have their say on social media following the news, and they seemed to be divided on their opinions.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction to the story…

But not everyone was so dismissive, and one even said he would be better off staying at St James' Park...
