According to Sky Sports, reported West Ham United target Jermain Defoe has opened talks with Bournemouth over a potential move to the south coast outfit.
The 34-year-old is set to leave Sunderland this summer following their relegation to the Championship, and there is a clause in his contract that allows him to join a Premier League club on a free transfer.
Irons manager Slaven Bilic was said to be keen on the England international as he looks to strengthen his attacking options, but he could miss out to the Cherries.
West Ham supporters were quick to have their say on the transfer update via social media, and while some were glad they had cooled their interest in the veteran striker, others couldn’t believe that they were missing out on the opportunity to sign a player that scored 15 top flight goals this season.
