West Ham United announced on their official website on Monday night that they had completed the signing of Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez on a three-year deal.

BBC Football say that the Irons paid a fee of £16m for the 29-year-old, who scored 39 goals in 76 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit following a move from Manchester United in 2015.

The Mexico international now returns to the Premier League and will look to add to the 37 English top flight goals he netted for the Red Devils in 103 outings.

West Ham supporters were quick to have their say on the signing via social media, and they were understandably delighted that they had added a “world-class” striker to their squad following injury issues for Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho last term, as well as loanee Simone Zaza proving to be a flop.
