West Ham United defender Jose Fonte has told Sky Sports that he has failed to make the grade since making the move to the London Stadium from Southampton during the January transfer window.
The 33-year-old joined the Irons for £8m after becoming frustrated with life at St Mary’s, but he has struggled to tighten up one of the leakiest defences in the Premier League.
The Euro 2016 winner has made eight top flight appearances for the Hammers, but he is yet to help them keep a clean sheet and they have conceded 18 times during that period.
He said: “I haven’t been as good as I perhaps was before but I am working to get there.”
Currently on a four-match losing streak, West Ham are just six points above the relegation zone and supporters are starting to get worried about what might happen in the run-in.
However, those fans were far from complimentary with their comments about the Portugal international.
