The saga concerning Dimitri Payet has definitely been the biggest story of the 2017 January transfer window but it seems the protracted situation is finally coming to a close, with just days remaining.
On Sunday evening, reports emerged that the French international had passed a medical with Marseille and was set to return to the Ligue 1 side- after West Ham accepted an offer from the club, despite their firm stance earlier in the window.
The period of Payet beyond adored in West Ham is certainly over now though and fans will be glad to see the back of him, following a disappointing scenario which saw the 29-year-old refuse to represent Slaven Bilic’s side.
In the end, it may be difficult to remember all the good he did in the first 12 months of his time in the Premier League as the ending to the story is not something fans will fondly recall- and it’s fair to say the bridges are well and truly burned.

Good riddance to Payet. Best player I've ever seen put on a West Ham shirt but if he wanted to go then cya later. Better off without him ⚒

Always knew we'd get 50m for Payet. Shame that's in AUD rather than £.
