West Ham United announced via their official Twitter account on Monday that it was four years to the day that they had signed Andy Carroll in a then club-record £15m deal from Liverpool.
While there has certainly been some ups – the hat-trick against Arsenal and the incredible goal against Crystal Palace last season certainly stand out – the 28-year-old’s time with the Irons has been largely blighted by injury much to the frustration of his managers and the fans.
The striker has made just 86 appearances for the east London outfit after joining them on a permanent deal from the Reds following a successful loan spell, scoring 23 goals, and could find himself further down the pecking order next term if transfer rumours are to be believed.
West Ham supporters were quick to give their responses to the tweet from the club via social media, with some wanting Carroll to leave and others describing his time with the Hammers as an “absolute disaster.”
