West Ham United fans find positives in Old Trafford trip despite heavy defeat

West Ham United had to endure a torrid Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford as a resurgent Manchester United started their season with a bang, slamming four goals past Slaven Bilic’s side without reply.

Romelu Lukaku was the big performer on the day, along with Jose Mourinho’s other massive Summer signing Nemanja Matic. The two were in sparkling form and whether it was through Lukaku’s lethal finishing or Matic’s classy midfield display, both announced their arrivals at the Red Devils.

For West Ham United fans it was also a chance to see a number of new arrivals in Premier League action with Javier Hernandez, Joe Hart and Mark Arnautovic amongst the new faces at the Hammers.

Hernandez had a frustrating afternoon on his old patch and despite running himself into the ground, was far too isolated spearheading the Irons’ attack to be any real threat to the Man United defence.

Despite the heavy defeat, some West Ham fans are choosing to take some of the few positives from the afternoon with Hernandez’s debut and young Declan Rice’s cameo chief in their thoughts.
