West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has revealed on Twitter that the club’s ambition is to finish eighth by the end of the season, but fans are having none of it.

Slaven Bilic’s side had a dismal start to the campaign, losing five of their opening six Premier League fixtures.

There were early concerns of a potential relegation battle, but since the beginning of December they have improved slightly, picking up 21 points in total.

In recent weeks, though, results have not gone to plan having recorded two draws and two defeats, which has left the Hammers 11th in the table with 10 games left to play.

In the final stretch of fixtures, Bilic’s men will take on top-four challengers Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, while relegation battlers Leicester City, Hull City, Swansea City and Sunderland are all due to face the East London outfit.

Gold - as he so often does - responded to a fan on Twitter, claiming that the team’s aim is to finish inside the top eight.

Plenty of fans disagreed with him, though, predicting that the club will fall short of their target.

Currently West Bromwich Albion occupy eighth and have a seven-point advantage over West Ham.
