Whenever a footballer signs for a new club, it makes sense for them to try to quickly get the fans onside.

In this case, Pablo Zabaleta has attempted it by describing the fans of his new club West Ham United as one of the “greatest” in England.

The Argentine has moved to the London Stadium from Manchester City, where he won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup.

The full-back had a strong relationship with City’s fanbase having spent nine years at the North-West outfit, but it appears that he has always been fond on West Ham’s following.

In an interview with West Ham TV, Zabaleta said:

“I would probably say West Ham are one of the greatest fans in England with great tradition and in home games and away games as well, following the team everywhere.

“The Bubbles you have when you come out from the tunnel make it more special as well, so hopefully as a player I can give good moments to them, but it’s not all about me but about the players performing well as a team to make sure we can win something together.”

Some football supporters, though, are not quite buying his claims and instead think that his comments are just standard given that he is a new signing.

Even a handful of West Ham fans are not convinced by his remarks, but are nonetheless happy to have the 32-year-old on board after an inconsistent season.

Slaven Bilic’s side failed to build on their seventh-place finish from the previous campaign and ended up settling for 11th after winning 12, drawing nine and losing 17 games.
