Hughes in talks to become Southampton manager, fans react

Southampton are preparing for a major change at the club at a crucial time of the season, with just eight games left to play.

On Monday evening, the club sacked manager Mauricio Pellegrino after a dismal run in the top flight.

The Argentine took up the vacancy left by Claude Puel just last summer, but he has only managed to guide the team to five wins in 30 matches.

As a result, the club sit just one point above the relegation zone, and now they find themselves in an even more stressful situation without a manager.

As expected, numerous names have been tossed around as possible candidates for the role, and now former Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has entered the fray.

According to BBC Sport, the 54-year-old is in talks with the Saints regarding the vacancy.

Hughes has been out of work since January when he was sacked by Stoke after the club dropped into the relegation zone.

Southampton fans had put Carlo Ancelotti on their wish list, but it looks as though Hughes’s appointment is edging closer.
