Le Tissier picks out one standout player from Southampton’s FA Cup quarter-final triumph

The Premier League season has been a dismal one for Southampton so far as they are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship.

As it stands, the coastal club are two points for safety with eight games left to play following a run of just five wins in 30 top-flight matches.

As a result of the dire form, manager Mauricio Pellegrino was sacked and replaced by former Stoke City boss Mark Hughes, who arrived at the club last week.

Even though the league has been miserable for Saints this season, the FA Cup has produced a different story as the club are now two wins away from lifting the trophy.

At the weekend, Southampton earned a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic to set themselves up for a semi-final clash against Chelsea.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg particularly impressed for the Saints as he scored the opening goal and played an influential role.

This season, the midfielder has only started 12 top-flight matches and has come off the bench in a further three.

Since mid-December, Hojbjerg has been a more regular feature in the side, but he has only played a full 90-minute match on 10 occasions.

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier picked out the midfielder for a special mention on Twitter, making it clear that he is very happy to see more of the Dane.
