Southampton vice-chairman Les Reed could be on his way out of the exit door, if the latest reports are anything to go by.
The Times claim that the 65-year-old is in the running to become the new technical director of the Premier League.
The publication states that the former Charlton Athletic boss is on a list of candidates that has been drawn up by recruitment consultants.
Reed has been part of the fabric at the coastal club since 2010 when he was initially hired as head of football development and support.
Southampton eventually made Reed vice-chairman of the club, but he has struggled to maintain a strong relationship with the fans.
The former centre-forward has played a part in some of Southampton’s homegrown talent, including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, breaking through.
However, the supporters have been left frustrated by recent transfer windows; not to mention the seemingly frequent sale of players to Liverpool.
Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Sadio Mane have all flocked to Anfield from St Mary’s over the last few years.
Virgil van Dijk was the latest player on Southampton’s books to make the exodus.
After news of Reed’s potential departure came to light, fans have been posting their reactions on Twitter.

Careful what you wish for. Yes, last couple of seasons have been disappointing but Reed has been central to a lot of our success in recent years. #saintsfc
