For the majority of Southampton’s season, questions were raised over the lack of attacking threat under former manager Mauricio Pellegrino.
Shane Long, Charlie Austin and Manolo Gabbiadini failed to find their rhythm in a system that was too negative.
Eventually, Pellegrino was dismissed by the Southampton board and Mark Hughes took over.
Despite playing more positively, the coastal club still seemed destined for the Championship as they sat in the relegation zone in the final few games of the season.
In the end, though, wins over Bournemouth and Swansea City saved their skin and they managed to retain top-flight status.
Back in January, the club tried to rectify their lack of scoring efforts by bringing in Guido Carrillo from Monaco.
However, the 27-year-old – valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt – failed to make an impact and only featured 10 times in all competitions, seven of which were in the Premier League.
In that time, Carrillo failed to score a single goal, and registered just two assists.
A Southampton fan on Reddit flagged up the forward’s Instagram story in which he posted a photo and message, simply writing: “Bye”.
Of course, he could just be jetting on holiday, but some Saints supporters are hopeful that he will not return to the club for next season.
