Southampton recruited Mark Hughes as the club’s new manager in March with the hope of guiding the club to Premier League safety.

Mauricio Pellegrino was shown the door just two months before the end of the campaign, but it seems that the managerial change has not had the desired effect.

The team have played better football under Hughes but they are yet win a league game having recorded three defeats against West Ham United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

As it stands, the Saints are five points from safety with five games left to play, and in that run they will take on Leicester City, Bournemouth, Everton, Swansea City and champions Manchester City.

Even though mathematically the club can still move out of the bottom three, fans are already resigned to relegation.

On Reddit, some of the club’s supporters tried to find an ounce of positivity to returning to the Championship, where they have not competed since the 2011-12 campaign.
