Southampton fans yearn for the Rickie Lambert days

Rickie Lambert is a legend among the Southampton fans for his goalscoring contribution during a five-year spell at the club.

The striker scored 117 goals for the coastal club in all competitions, and was a major reason behind their promotion to the Championship and then Premier League in back-to-back seasons.

In 2014, Lambert opted to end his time at Southampton after receiving interest from the club that he has supported all his life – Liverpool.

The majority of supporters did not begrudge Lambert’s desire to move to Anfield, but the forward only lasted a season before joining West Bromwich Albion and later Cardiff City.

Lambert retired from professional football last year, but some fans wish that he was still at the club.

Given that the team have been struggling for goals this season, having netted just 28 goals in 27 Premier League games, it is understandable that the supporters would be yearning for their former striker.

To celebrate Lambert’s 36th birthday, Southampton’s social media team created a compilation video of the hitman’s best goals.
