Southampton’s summer transfer recruitment drive has turned out to be rather disappointing.

Moussa Djenepo has been underwhelming, contributing to just four goals all season, and Kevin Danso has been nothing short of a flop, appearing only six times this term for the south coast club.

However, despite the two aforementioned players being rather poor, nobody has been more disappointing than Che Adams.

The striker came in last season with a big reputation, but he’s been tremendously underwhelming.

He’d just scored 22 goals in the Championship on his way to being nominated for the division’s Player of the Year award, and he looked like he was ready to take the top-flight by storm.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite worked out like that.

He’s still waiting for his first Saints goal, and that doesn’t look likely to come anytime soon while he’s averaging 0.8 shots per game.

Not only is he not finding the net, but his overall performance has been poor, averaging a WhoScored rating of 6.25.

Fortunately, the man responsible for spending £15m on Adams is no longer at the club as Ross Wilson left the club back in October.

Matt Crocker was the man who took up the mantle from Wilson, and he could put to bed the disappointments of his predecessor’s reign by righting the wrongs of last summer.

Saints looked towards Adams when they needed a striker, but his poor debut campaign means that they still need a forward when the window reopens. If Crocker gets it right this time around the south coast club can forget about the colossal mistake they made in signing the former Birmingham City man.

Crocker and his team need to find a striker who can bring everything they were hoping Adams could provide.

In other news, Southampton need to ditch one transfer policy.
