In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former Hull striker Dean Windass said he doesn't that believe Ralph Hasenhuttl will be sacked despite Southampton's poor recent form.

Following victory over Newcastle back in early November, Saints topped the Premier League, but just one point from a possible 27 available has seen the St Mary's outfit slip to 14th, just seven points above the relegation-zone.

And Southampton's poor run continued on Monday night after they were narrowly beaten by Everton, which means their last league win came against Liverpool at the start of January.

Hasenhuttl led the Saints to 11th in his first full season, and despite their wretched run of results, Windass told FFC that he thinks the Austrian deserves at least until the end of the campaign. He said:

"I think that it's been a yo-yo thing Southampton in a sense of getting done 9-0, then beating Liverpool, and they've been good to watch. Out of possession and they press from the front. They're relying on Danny Ings, whose scored goals and got injured and gone and scored goals again.

"They brought in Theo Walcott, who has been a revelation for Southampton really, you thought his career was over at Everton and he's revitalised his career.

"Southampton have had a good season, for Southampton, but I just think that one more season for the manager and that'll determine how he starts the Premier League next year."

10 Premier League managers have been sacked in each of the previous few seasons, although only Slaven Bilic and Frank Lampard have lost their jobs this term.

Windass added:

"You know how ruthless football manager jobs are now. So everybody starts from a clean slate. Because you've done well, because you've done well like the season before. But if you lose the first two or three games of the Premier League season, you'll get the sack. So I think he'll be there next season.

"He's been a great manager this season and he's been a credit to the football, but I think he'll stay until the end of the season and we will see what happens next year."

Considering the impact Hasenhuttl has made during his time at Southampton, he's earned the right to turn things around.

And with the Premier League table changing dramatically on an almost weekly basis this season, a couple of victories could easily see the Saints pushing towards the top-half once more, but they must improve quickly or they might soon face the unlikely prospect of a relegation battle.
