After triumphing at Molineux in the FA Cup in midweek, Southampton now face Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday, as they look to get their Premier League season back on track.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have suffered five straight defeats in the Premier League which have seen them drop down the table, but the Austrian will be hoping that his side’s impressive win on Thursday will give them confidence ahead of the repeat fixture at St Mary’s on Sunday.
Southampton recently welcomed back Kyle Walker-Peters and Jannik Vestergaard to fitness, although Mohammed Salisu’s impressive debut in midweek could well see him keep his place on Sunday.
Here’s how Football FanCast expects Hasenhuttl to line his side up against Wolves, with three changes from the side that started in midweek…
Despite earning another clean sheet against Wolves, Fraser Forster is benched in place of first-choice ‘keeper Alex McCarthy for this fixture.
The defence stays the same, with Salisu deserving to start alongside Jan Bednarek again after his solid debut display, whilst Walker-Peters and Ryan Bertrand continue at full-back.
There’s one change in midfield, as Takumi Minamino comes back in after being cup-tied in midweek, and he replaces the out-of-form Moussa Djenepo on the left-hand side.
James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu and Stuart Armstrong continue in midfield, with all three having impressed with their performances this season so far.
Finally, there’s one change in attack, as Che Adams comes in for Nathan Redmond, who was arguably Southampton’s poorest performer on Thursday, as he struggled in a new position, suggesting that Hasenhuttl will revert to the tried-and tested partnership of Danny Ings and Adams on Sunday.
And, in other news, Hasenhuttl has a big decision to make with £70k-p/w beast ahead of Wolves game…
