Southampton are reportedly not looking to move Adam Armstrong out of the club during the summer transfer window.

What's the news?

In a recent post on Twitter, Saints journalist Benjy Nurick had his say on the matter after the striker was linked with a loan move to Watford.

He said: "Watford might be interested in Adam Armstrong but I’m told (not for the first time this summer) that reports of the striker going on loan are ‘rubbish’. Not totally sure why this rumour keeps cropping up. #SaintsFC are looking to add options up front not lose them."

Southampton signed the 25-year-old from Blackburn Rovers last summer on a four-year deal reportedly worth around £15m.

With 28 appearances to his name across all competitions last term, the Englishman only found the net on two occasions and provided three assists for his team.

Despite his lack of regular goal contributions throughout the season, Armstrong still proved to be a useful attacking option by racking up a total of 47 shots at goal in his 23 league appearances, which is only four fewer than James Ward-Prowse, who topped the list at St Mary's with 51 attempts at goal.

Great news for Hasenhuttl

Now that Nurick has dismissed the rumours linking Armstrong with a loan move to Watford, this will surely be great news for Ralph Hasenhuttl, who would surely be hoping to see the striker improve on what was a difficult debut season for him at St Mary's.

It's safe to say that the player himself will surely be hoping to have a better campaign this time around so he can show what he's really capable of and highlight why the club were right to sign him in the first place.

Even though the Saints have brought in Sekou Mara recently to help strengthen their attacking line, perhaps having a new centre-forward in the squad could provide some healthy competition for Armstrong and make him work harder to cement a place in the team.

With the start of the new season in sight, the best thing the 25-year-old can do would be to get off to a strong start by finding the net at the earliest opportunity to show his manager that he can be an important figure in the team and put to bed any lingering doubts over his future at St Mary's.
