Southampton could be set to lose Kyle Walker-Peters this summer, with Manchester United and Arsenal reportedly interested in him, but Ralph Hasenhuttl can find a natural replacement for the former Tottenham Hotspur man in Brandon Williams.

What's the word?

According to The Athletic, Walker-Peters is attracting interest from the Red Devils and the Gunners, but Southampton are keen to keep the England international and want to sign another full-back to compete with the 25-year-old as Tino Livramento continues to recover from his long-term injury.

Williams is touted as one potential option for Hasenhuttl's side, which is no surprise given that the Saints have been heavily linked with the United academy graduate in the past.

Like Walker-Peters, the 21-year-old is capable of playing as both a right-back and a left-back, and he will perhaps be targeting a permanent move away from Old Trafford this summer, having featured regularly on loan at Norwich City last season.

Erik ten Hag has brought in Tyrell Malacia as a new left-back, while he already has Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diego Dalot at right-back, so it is difficult to see Williams establishing himself in United's first team.

Southampton's next Walker-Peters?

There are plenty of similarities between Walker-Peters and Williams.

They are both products of the academies of 'top six' outfits but have never really nailed down a starting spot with their respective clubs, as Walker-Peters made just 24 appearances for Spurs before his switch to St Mary's.

Considering that the Southampton defender is now a full England international, Williams might want to follow a similar career path to the 25-year-old and join the Saints this summer.

As previously mentioned, both defenders are versatile and can play on either side, which is surely an attractive proposition to Hasenhuttl.

After a rare appearance for United in 2019, Williams earned a lot of praise from former team-mate Daniel James, who said: "Brandon was unbelievable today. He's great in training every day. Unbelievable attitude. Massive credit to him to come and start at Old Trafford in the Premier League."

The 21-year-old would reportedly be available for as little as £10m and could provide some excellent competition for Walker-Peters in Southampton's defence, or potentially replace him should Spurs pay the £30m buyback clause in his contract.

Therefore, this deal feels like a no-brainer for Southampton this summer, especially if Williams can replicate Walker-Peters' career trajectory in a Saints shirt.
