Southampton ended their latest Premier League campaign with just 43 goals scored and the second-lowest rate for goals per shot on target in the top flight (0.23).

One man in the Saints' squad who didn't deliver as many goals as Ralph Hasenhuttl and the St Mary's faithful would have hoped for is Che Adams.

In 30 league appearances, the striker could only find the net on seven occasions - fewer than midfielder James Ward-Prowse, who ended the season with 10 goals.

Looking ahead to the upcoming Premier League season, the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window could give Hasenhuttl the chance to bring in a new attacking figure who would be an upgrade on the Scotsman to try and improve the team's potency.

One man who has been mentioned with a move to the English south coast and who could fit this particular bill is Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Saints are looking to secure a £10m deal for the Frenchman as he enters the final year of his contract at the Groupama Stadium.

After scoring 51 goals in 94 appearances for Celtic, the 26-year-old moved to Lyon in 2018. Since then, the centre-forward has bagged 67 goals in 143 appearances for Les Gones.

To compare his latest league season with that of Adams, Dembele scored three times as many goals (21) as the Saints striker did, despite making the same number of appearances, which goes to show how much of an upgrade he'd be for Southampton.

In fact, the former Celtic star also racked up a higher percentage of successful dribbles and aerial duels, showing how impressive he can be with the ball at his feet and in the air.

Hailed by journalist Richard Fay as a "perfect" player and "deadly" in front of goal, Dembele would certainly be an exciting addition to Southampton's squad and give them a real danger man up front who can rack up goals on a regular basis.

If Hasenhuttl wants to strengthen the attacking area of his squad, securing a deal for the French striker could be the best way to do just that.
