Southampton have been linked with a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele recently, and the former Celtic man could prove to be Ralph Hasenhuttl's own version of Manchester City star Erling Haaland at St Mary's.

According to The Sun, the Saints are considering a move for the 26-year-old this summer, and he could be available at a cut-price fee of £25m after the Ligue 1 club re-signed Alexandre Lacazette from Arsenal.

Hasenhuttl has already lost two of his striking options from last season in Armando Broja and Shane Long, so perhaps he will be looking to add another striker to his ranks after the recent signing of Sekou Mara from Bordeaux.

In Dembele, they would be getting a top-quality goalscorer who has consistently found the net throughout his career.

Last season saw the Frenchman hit 21 goals in just 30 domestic appearances, averaging an impressive 7.21 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Meanwhile, James Ward-Prowse was Southampton's top scorer in the Premier League last season with 10, while none of Hasenhuttl's attackers hit double figures, which suggests that they are lacking a clinical option up front.

Should Dembele arrive this summer, he could be Hasenhuttl's version of Haaland, who looks set to star in the Premier League after joining Pep Guardiola's side from Borussia Dortmund.

According to FBRef, the Norway international is the seventh-most similar player to Dembele in terms of playing style.

Last season saw the two strikers record very similar numbers in terms of shots per 90, pass completion percentage and shot-creating actions per 90, which suggests that they both offer a serious threat in attack.

WhoScored also suggests that both Dembele and Haaland excel at finishing and like to play short passes, and Hasenhuttl would surely love to have a player similar to the Manchester City sensation in his squad.

Therefore, Martin Semmens should definitely try and complete a move for the "unplayable" Lyon man this summer (in the words of former Celtic team-mate Leigh Griffiths), as he could be an exceptional addition to Hasenhuttl's side.
