Southampton were unsurprisingly on the end of a hammering today, as they travelled to Manchester City to fall to a 4-0 defeat.

It was a game that they were wholly expected to lose, although it now denotes a fourth straight defeat for Ralph Hasenhuttl as the pressure continues to mount on the Austrian.

Few of his players actually turned up for him today in what many would consider the toughest fixture in world football at the moment. This is outlined through the combined team SofaScore rating of 6.37.

Out of the disappointing performers from today, perhaps the most toothless of them all was Stuart Armstrong, who continued his poor form.

This game marked his eighth appearance in the Premier League this season without a goal or an assist, while he attained the joint-lowest SofaScore rating out of anyone on the pitch with just 5.8.

Arguably most damning statistic from his performance is that he touched the ball just 26 times in his 66 minutes on the field. This was so low that his goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu had almost three times more with 74. Of these 26 touches, the Scotland international managed to lose possession seven times.

Furthermore, he only managed one off-target shot all afternoon, provided zero key passes and wasa unsuccessful with all three of his attempted dribbles.

When facing a side like City, who so often dominate possession (68% average this season), the forwards are usually required to do just as much defending as those playing at the back in order to have any realistic chance of keeping the scoreline respectable.

Unsurprisingly, Pep Guardiola’s side boasted 66% possession today, and Armstrong offered almost nothing to help out.

He lost 87% of his duels and only made one tackle, but perhaps the most frustrating statistic is that he was dribbled past three times too, showing how truly out of his depth he was today.

His performance, along with a select few others, have heaped even more pressure on Hasenhuttl. Southampton barely threatened all day and shipped another four goals, with Armstrong an unfortunate contributor to a sorry afternoon for the Saints.
