Southampton have reportedly enquired about poaching a top talent from a European heavyweight…

What’s the latest?

According to Tutto Juve (via Sport Witness), the Saints have joined a list of Premier League clubs interested in Juventus’ young defender Koni de Winter.

The 20-year-old has caught the interest of Crystal Palace and West Ham United, with all three clubs having enquired about his availability.

Having excelled thus far on loan at Empoli, there is a belief he will play a huge role in the future of Belgium football. He was expected to go to the World Cup, had he not suffered his unfortunate injury.

Ditch Caleta-Car

With a long-standing history of signing and developing young talent, this would be a move incredibly in character for the south coast outfit.

Ralph Hasenhuttl oversaw a summer of huge recruitment, but of his eight permanent transfers, the oldest player they signed was just 25.

One of those has somewhat disappointed however, with Duje Caleta-Car likely to have his position challenged should De Winter sign.

Although the Austrian has now departed St Mary’s, Nathan Jones will likely be expected to uphold this value that has seen the club make untold amounts of profit from their sensational business model.

In the Juventus defender, they would earn a youngster already boasting experience in a top-flight league, who has excelled too.

His injury has resulted in him only featuring eight times for The Blues, although in that time he has clearly managed to capture the attention.

In what is essentially his breakout year, he is averaging a SofaScore rating of 6.81 alongside 3.4 clearances and 1.3 tackles a game. Despite his youth, he truly "has no fear", as Leonardo Bonucci claimed.

This far outperforms the aforementioned Croatian, who has a lower rating, far fewer clearances and the same number of tackles, via SofaScore.

Even with the ball at their feet, it seems like the two are comparable, which speaks volumes for the quality of the young 6 foot 1 starlet.

De Winter offers an 88% pass accuracy, which again outperforms the 86% of Caleta-Car.

This could mark a huge statement of intent from Southampton and could see Jones stamp his mark on the side by ditching a Hasenhuttl signing for one of his own.
