Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl can seal a dream alternative to Nathan Redmond by replacing him with young Manchester City ace Sam Edozie this summer.

The starlet has been on the club’s radar for some time as they look to bolster their attacking options heading into the new Premier League season.

Fabrizio Romano had recently tweeted an update on any potential deal, as the Saints looked to swoop in to steal the English talent from German side Bayer Leverkusen.

He claimed: “Southampton are now trying to hijack Sam Edozie’s transfer, almost agreed with Bayer Leverkusen – could be a late attempt but Saints want to try until the end. Leverkusen agreed fee with Man City and Southampton are entering the race.”

With the club having recently completed the signing of striker Sekou Mara from French side Bordeaux, the Austrian manager will be hoping to add a few extra attacking options with the season fast approaching.

Although only featuring 12 times in the Premier League 2, he still managed three goal contributions and impressed with his speed and flair.

It would not take a mammoth task to improve on Nathan Redmond’s tally of just one goal last season, and to replace him with this 19-year-old who can only improve would make sense for a Saints side crying out for added ingenuity.

At the start of last season, Pep Guardiola dubbed the youngster an “incredible young player”. He will be disappointed to see this highly rated youngster leave, however, Southampton have been notoriously impressive with their youth promotion.

It could be a match made in heaven for both club and player, with a natural replacement for Redmond, who journalist Adam Jones had dubbed “terrible” in the past, and “overrated because he’s English”.

This would mark their seventh foray into the transfer market for Hasenhuttl, which could be imperative in their survival bid for the coming season.

Finally they could axe Redmond, who has been at the club for six years and only mustered 30 goals in a whopping 230 appearances. Edozie could be the perfect replacement for years to come and could save them a fortune with the former already linked with the exit door earlier this year.
