Sunderland have had a topsy turvy season and there is simply no way of predicting how it will end now that the suspension of the football season has changed things for every club.

One player who epitomises their tumultuous form is Charlie Wyke, as the striker has been consistently picked by Phil Parkinson and played a hand in the great turn around in form after Christmas, but he has also struggled in front of goal.

His return of five goals in 27 league games shows that, but Sunderland have lost just seven out of those games, which suggests he is a positive influence.

Some fans have agreed with that over the course of the season, but there have been voices of discontent too.

The reactions below came in response to the Black Cats' 2-1 victory over Rochdale back in August, before things went downhill under Jack Ross.

For Wyke it was a clean slate after an injury-hit first season and the fact he got the winning goal meant he was a popular figure amongst the fanbase.

Injury hindered that a few weeks later and meant the striker missed five league games. By the time he came back the team was in dire straits but he managed to score in his first start since returning, and that gave cause for optimism.

Sunderland's upturn in form happened after that point, but a lack of goals from the 27-year-old meant he was always vulnerable to criticism, and it did end up coming his way after he missed two good chances in a 1-0 defeat to play-off rivals.

Soon after injury ruled him out of a match against Gillingham. His replacement Kyle Lafferty scored twice and that led some fans to call for the Northern Ireland international to start ahead of him from that point onwards.
