In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Keith Gillespie, who made 86 appearances for Northern Ireland, claims that Jordan Jones is too good to be playing for Sunderland in League One.

Jones is currently on loan from Rangers after signing temporarily in January for the remainder of the season and he has certainly caught the eye with three goals and four assists since arriving on Wearside.

The 26-year old was involved in a controversial breach of COVID restrictions during his time at Rangers which followed him when he joined Sunderland as he was suspended when he arrived.

Speaking on how Jones is too good for League One and must be playing at a higher level for the good of Northern Ireland, Gillespie spoke exclusively to FFC:

"Sunderland is a big club but they need to get promoted from League One, because I think Jordan Jones is too good for League One and he is an important player for Northern Ireland when he does play.

"So hopefully he can finish the season strongly and earn himself a move away because we need players playing as high up the leagues as possible for Northern Ireland."

Sunderland have secured their place in the play-offs for the second time in three seasons but will be disappointed that their run of one win in six matches halted their charge for an automatic promotion spot.

Lee Johnson will be hoping their recent victory at Wembley in the Papa John's Trophy will give his side a psychological edge if they get to Wembley again.
