An update has emerged on Sunderland and their interest in Reda Khadra in the summer transfer window…
The report claims that they are facing competition from fellow Championship outfit Sheffield United, with the two teams set to battle it out for his services.
He spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland are now hoping to be his next destination.
By signing Khadra on a temporary basis from Brighton, Speakman can land Alex Neil an exciting partnership at the top end of the pitch.
The 21-year-old – who can play on the wing, up front, or at wing-back – can link up with current Black Cats gem Alex Pritchard to provide magic in the final third.
In the Championship last season, Khadra scored four goals and set up two in 18 starts. He created three ‘big chances’ for his teammates and produced 16 key passes in total, showing that he has the potential to make a big impact in attack if he can continue developing with more experience.
Journalist Callum Altimas hailed the gem’s potential earlier this year, Tweeting: “Had so much fun watching this guy throughout this season, huge things on the horizon for him!”
This suggests that he has shown signs of development and he can improve whilst playing regular football under Neil at the Stadium of Light.
His statistics suggest that the 21-year-old could provide a threat from wing-back, if that is where Sunderland opt to play him, and he can link up with Pritchard from that position.
The Black Cats playmaker produced nine assists and created 2.0 chances per match in League One last term as he proved his creativity in a red and white shirt. He has the quality to put opportunities on a plate for his teammates on a regular basis and that is why he can form an exciting partnership with Khadra.
Pritchard can thread passes between the opposition full-back and centre-back for the German to run on to – putting him in positions to then either cut the ball back to the Englishman, cross it into the box, or go for goal himself.
