Kristjaan Speakman has the unenviable task of navigating his way through the final few days of the summer transfer window whilst trying to land Sunderland's next manager.

Alex Neil left the Black Cats without their manager for the 1-0 defeat at home to Norwich on Saturday to speak with Stoke and he has since accepted to join the Potters, leaving the Stadium of Light after less than a year at the helm.

The Sunderland sporting director now has three days left of the window to complete any remaining signings that he has planned, along with attempting to replace the Scot.

A home clash with fellow newly-promoted side Rotherham is coming up on Wednesday and it remains to be seen whether or not a permanent manager will be in charge in time for the game.

In spite of all the uncertainty in the dugout, Speakman could end the club's window with a bang by securing a deal to sign Jamal Lowe from Bournemouth.

Sunderland are one of a number of Championship teams reportedly interested in signing him, alongside Watford, Burnley, and Norwich.

The Cherries are said to be willing to send him out on loan for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign and Speakman must pounce on this opportunity to bolster the squad.

He has been deemed surplus to requirements in the Premier League but he has proven that he can be a top performer in the Championship and that is why bringing him in could be a terrific end to the window.

Lowe, whose movement was once described as "top class" by journalist Josh Bunting, knows how to score goals at this level and would add quality and versatility to the group.

The £13k-per-week attacker can play on either wing, as a number 10, or as a striker and this means that he could be used in a multitude of roles. This will be particularly useful with a new manager coming in as he may lean on his adaptability and experience in the second tier.

In the 2021/22 Championship campaign, Lowe plundered seven goals and two assists in 12 starts for the Cherries. This came after the forward found the back of the net 14 times in 42 starts in the division for Swansea, which shows that he has the potential to be a regular scorer at this level.

Ross Stewart and Ellis Simms have scored six goals between them this season and the rest of the squad have scored two between them. This suggests that bringing in an additional goalscorer, like Lowe, would ease the burden on them and improve the club's attack heading into the rest of the campaign.

Therefore, Speakman must now pounce on the opportunity to sign Lowe on loan to end the club's window with a bang.
