An update has emerged on Sunderland and their pursuit of further reinforcements in the summer transfer window...

What's the talk?

According to the Sunday World, the Black Cats are one of three Championship teams interested in a deal to sign Troy Parrott ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The report claims that QPR and Preston are also eyeing up a swoop, alongside Alex Neil, for the Tottenham youngster, with all three sides set to battle it out for his services.

It is stated that Spurs are willing to send him out on loan again as he is unlikely to get regular game time in Antonio Conte's team, as the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski are ahead of him.

Nathan Broadhead 2.0

By securing a deal to sign Parrott on a temporary basis, Neil can land the club their next Nathan Broadhead by snapping up a talented Premier League youngster on loan.

The Welsh striker spent the 2021/22 campaign at the Stadium of Light and enjoyed an excellent spell as he scored ten goals and failed to produce any assists in 22 outings in League One. He showed that he could score goals on a regular basis in the third tier and his return to Everton has left a big hole in the squad.

Sunderland can now fill it by signing Parrott on loan from Tottenham as he also caught the eye in the third tier last term. In 36 league starts, he scored nine goals and provided six assists for his teammates as he played out wide and through the middle.

The £7k-per-week gem, who has been described as "incredible" by compatriot and former MK Dons team-mate Connor Coventry, can score and create goals and that is why he has the potential to be an excellent signing.

He can find the back of the net, like Broadhead, but he can also set up his teammates - as evidenced by his assists. As a result, he'd provide a huge threat at the top end of the pitch.

At the age of 20, Parrott also has room to grow and improve and can be a player Neil is able to develop over the course of a season. He can hone his skills as he gains more Championship experience and, hopefully, be as successful as the last loanee from a top-flight club to arrive on Wearside.
