All four Semi-Finalists will want cup glory for different reasons. Sunderland are struggling in the league and a cup win might just give them the confidence boost they desperately need. Similarly, David Moyes will be looking to give his side a welcome lift with cup glory, but also to start off his first season in charge at Old Trafford with a trophy.

West Ham fans will be desperate for silverware, as they’ve been struggling for results in the league, while Manuel Pellegrini will be looking to add as much to the club’s trophy cabinet as possible in his first season at the Etihad.

In more detail, here’s what each of the Semi-Finalists stand to gain from Capital One Cup glory.

Manchester City

Manuel Pellegrini has had a rollercoaster start to the league campaign, smashing the top sides but falling short away from home to the likes of Sunderland and Cardiff.

However, the Etihad has seen some majestic football this season, with impressive results against some excellent sides. Rivals Manchester United were soundly beaten 4-1, Norwich had seven put past them, while Tottenham and Arsenal saw six goals fly past their goalkeepers.

Of late, the Chilean manager seems to have rectified his side’s away form, having won four matches on the road in December, the most impressive of which coming at European champions Bayern Munich.

City fans will be looking for their side to win as much silverware as possible this season and will be hoping that they can become the second team to win the treble since rivals Manchester United did in 1999.

Manchester United

Having lost their iconic manager Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes will be looking to carry on the tradition of winning trophies at Old Trafford and what better way than to beat their arch enemies in the Final of the Capital One Cup, if both sides manage to get past their Semi-Final clashes.

A dip in United’s home form this season has seen them fall out of the top 4, a place they have grown accustomed to. The Capital One Cup will be the perfect way to start off his life at Old Trafford and could lift the squad if they saw their manager lead them to cup glory.

West Ham United

Having not won a cup competition since 1980, Hammers fans will be itching to get a taste of cup glory once again. Sam Allardyce has done well so far to reach the Semi-Finals, having knocked out fellow Londoners Tottenham in the previous round.

Their league campaign however has been hindered due to a lot of injuries and so Sam Allardyce will be looking to win the Capital One Cup to ease the pressure. The fixture ahead of them in the competition however, will be a tough one, having to play Manchester City who have already beaten the Hammers 3-1 in the league.

Sunderland

Nobody will want this cup glory more than Gus Poyet and his Sunderland side. They’ve been having a torrid time in the league so far and face an uphill struggle after finishing bottom before Christmas.

The fans will feel they deserve to reach the Final after watching their side beat both Southampton and Chelsea in earlier rounds of the Capital One Cup.

A win would give his side the confidence to perform better in the league and could be the key to their survival in the Premier League, never mind the other rewards and accolades they would receive from winning the Capital One Cup.
