Luka Modric and Niko Kranjcar are two of the most high profile Croatian footballers to represent Tottenham Hotspur in recent years but a recent report suggests one of their compatriots, namely Rangers' Borna Barisic, could be on his way to north London.

Indeed, according to a recent report from 90min, Spurs will make a move for Barisic at the end of the season, though the Scottish outfit will demand a fee in excess of £22m for his signature.

With Danny Rose currently on loan at Newcastle United and Ben Davies representing the only natural option at left-back, it's no surprise that the signing of a new option in that position is one of Jose Mourinho's top priorities this summer.

The 27-year-old had a slow start to life at Ibrox but he has blossomed into one of the club's most consistent players, establishing himself as Croatia's first choice left-back in the process.

A move to Spurs would naturally be a major step up in class for Barisic, but endorsements from those who know him best suggest that, given an ample amount of time to adapt, he can become a big hit in north London.

Here's what's been said about the imposing 6ft 1 defender...

Zlatko Dalic, Croatia manager

Zlatko Dalic has handed Barisic all 12 of his Croatia caps and that in itself is a testament to how highly the international manager rates him.

Speaking about Barisic's initial struggle to thrive in Glasgow, the 53-year-old used Luka Modric as an example of how time and patience are often needed even for the most talented footballers, per BBC Sport.

"It takes time for every player to adapt to a new club, new league, surroundings, coach, team-mates, language. You may remember that Luka Modric was named as the worst signing by Real Madrid after his first six months with the club - and you know how the rest of his career in Madrid played out.

"The difference is even bigger if you are coming from the Croatian league, which is more technical, to Scotland, where intensity, speed, aggression and physicality is at a much higher level. But in the end, quality finds its way, and Borna certainly has the quality to play at a high level."

Quality finds its way. Perhaps the higher level Dalic alludes to could be in the Premier League with the Lilywhites.

Steven Gerrard, Rangers manager

Though he is far from renowned for his goal scoring expertise, Barisic's winning goal away at St Mirren at the beginning of the 2019/20 season appeared to act as the catalyst for his rise in stature at Rangers.

And Liverpool legend and current Gers boss Steven Gerrard has explicitly pointed to that moment as the turning point in his career at Ibrox, per BBC Sport.

"Sometimes it is something that happens on the field that gets you accepted in the dressing room and the fans get behind you even more. I do think that was the case with Borna. The St Mirren goal was such a big moment for him personally. And his consistency levels from there have been outstanding."

Tom English, BBC Scotland journalist

Finally, any analysis of an SPFL talent would not be complete without an Old Firm reference of some description.

Following Rangers' first win at Celtic Park since 2010 shortly before the turn of the year, a game in which Barisic provided both of the assists to boost a season tally that currently stands at eight, BBC Scotland journalist Tom English named him as his man of the match, per BBC Sport.

"It could have been McGregor for the penalty save or Davis for the goal-line clearances and midfield excellence, but Barisic was an immense performer, assisting on both goals, crossing to perfection and dealing with Celtic's wide players with ease. Outstanding."

A man for the big occasion, Barisic's experience in one of world football's most vehement derbies should have provided him with the tools needed to thrive in a north London affair against Arsenal.
