Tottenham Hotspur have moulded plenty of players into world-class talents, with the likes of Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Harry Kane all having gone on to dominate the game.
However, one of the more criminally underrated players in recent times has been Eric Dier, who has actually been around at Spurs for eight years now.
Signed for just £4m from Sporting Lisbon, the England international has had a tumultuous career in north London. In some seasons he has been lauded, whilst in others, he has been ostracised.
Finally, under Antonio Conte, he does seem to be finding the consistency that is earning him widespread praise, with a fine SofaScore rating of 7.10 this season indicative of this form.
He has played every minute of all eight of their Premier League games this season, whilst also popping up with two goals. This could certainly be viewed as the most impressive he has looked across 329 games for the Lilywhites.
Just last December, Andrew Gaffney praised Dier’s “sensational” transformation. He took to Twitter to claim: “He reads the game so much better, is tidy in possession and can produce some long-range passes that even David Beckham would be proud of. A real rock at the back.”
His importance has been amplified due to the absence of Cristian Romero, but he has risen to the challenge to further improve his standing within the game.
This sees a 450% increase in his rating since his initial transfer fee, which will delight Daniel Levy.
A rise such as this is indicative of just how impressive he has been for Spurs, and if he can continue his solid form, he could be integral to doing something really special under Conte.
