Former Tottenham captain Graham Roberts has exclusively told Football FanCast that he doesn’t want Rafael Benitez to become the next Tottenham manager.

The Spaniard has been a free agent since leaving his role as manager of Chinese Super League side Dalian Professional back in January due to heath concerns to his family following Covid-19.

He managed just 12 victories from 38 matches in charge of Dalian and is reportedly targeting a move back to the Premier League.

Benitez, who was praised by Spurs loanee Gareth Bale following his departure from Real Madrid in 2016, left Newcastle at the end of the 2018-2019 campaign, with disagreements with owner Mike Ashley the reason for his departure, despite leading the Magpies to a 13th-place finish.

The 61-year-old boasts an impressive managerial CV, having won silverware with Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Valencia, plus that memorable 2005 Champions League victory with Liverpool in Istanbul.

Despite his glistening career, Roberts told Football FanCast that his defensive style is not what Tottenham need right now.

He told Football FanCast:

"Not him! I think he’s had his time. He was at Newcastle, he went to China for the money, which everyone would.

"The way he played at Newcastle is not the way we want to play, so he’s definitely not one for me."
