Serie A expert Conor Clancy believes that Antonio Conte is a better coach than Mauricio Pochettino as he closes in on the Tottenham Hotspur job.

Various reports have suggested that Conte has become the frontrunner for the Spurs job in recent days.

That comes after a week of links with the former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, whom chairman Daniel Levy wanted to bring back from French giants PSG.

Conte now appears to be in the driving seat, though, as Spurs look to replace Jose Mourinho.

Clancy, who is the editor-in-chief of Forza Italian Football, believes that Conte is one of the top coaches in world football, and is a level above Pochettino.

Indeed, the former Inter Milan boss won Serie A just this season, and also lifted the Premier League title in his first season in English football.

Pochettino, during his time at Spurs, did not win anything, though he did build a side capable of putting together two title challenges and reaching the Champions League final. His Spurs side finished runners-up to Conte's title-winning Chelsea side.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Clancy said: “I think Conte is one of the very, very best coaches in the world.

“Pochettino is obviously a really good coach too but I think he’s on that tier just below Conte.

“Of course, there is that caveat then, Conte can’t manage two games in a week, but when it comes to what Conte does with his team on a training pitch, I don’t think there are many better.”
