Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been sent into a meltdown on social media this week after reports linked them to a Premier League rival's outcast.

If things weren't already reaching crisis point in north London, they may now be going by the following reaction from the fanbase, as the club have been mooted with Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren, according to La Lazio Siamo Noi.

They claim Spurs are one of several clubs holding an interest in signing the Croatian this summer with arch-rivals Arsenal, Lazio and AC Milan mentioned in the report too.

Fans haven't taken too kindly to the news, so here's how they have been reacting...

Most of the reaction was in pure disbelief that they were even linked with the 30-year-old as some were questioning whether it was a joke and if it was too early for April Fool's Day.

Lovren has only played nine times in the Premier League this season with manager Jurgen Klopp opting for Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip over him frequently.

There were even comparisons made between players past and present in north London.

Some members of the Spurs faithful would rather see Michel Vorm or Ryan Nelsen at centre-back before Lovren whilst there was also a shout for former academy prospect Bongani Khumalo.

A further fan likened the current transfer landscape to that of the Harry Redknapp era - think back to the likes of Nico Kranjcar, Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe.
