Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for Spanish goalkeeper Pau Lopez this month, and the Roma man could be the man to replace Hugo Lloris at the North London club.

What's the word?

According to Gazzetta. It (via Sport Witness) both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham have been linked with a loan move for the 26-year-old shot-stopper, although Roma are said to have immediately declined any loan proposals.

However, it also suggests that the Serie A side would struggle to sell the former Espanyol man for €12-15 million after a string of poor recent performances, suggesting he would be available for relatively cheap.

The replacement for Hugo Lloris?

Spurs' first-choice 'keeper Hugo Lloris has been linked with a move to PSG recently and if he were to depart the North London club at the end of the current season, then perhaps Lopez could be the man to replace him in Jose Mourinho's side.

The 26-year-old has spent time with Spurs before, having been on loan with the Lilywhites in the 2016/17 season but he failed to make a single appearance for the senior side during his time there, so it was no surprise that they opted not to make his loan stay a permanent one.

Since then, he enjoyed a strong spell with Real Betis before joining Roma but his time with I Giallorossi has not exactly gone to plan, as he has conceded 64 goals in 54 appearances, with just 13 clean sheets to his name.

However, his performances in the Europa League this season certainly suggest that he is still a quality 'keeper, as he has averaged a strong 7.05 rating in that competition.

Lloris was full of praise for the young Spanish keeper in his last spell with Spurs, saying:

"He’s a young keeper with a lot of quality."

He would also likely be open to a move back to the North London club, having described it as a "dream" to play for the club when he joined on loan in 2016, something which he was, unfortunately, unable to achieve during his spell in England.

Therefore, if the £9 million-rated shot-stopper can rediscover his best form, he could be a cheap solution for Spurs if they are planning for the future and looking for someone to replace Lloris when he leaves the North London club.
