Tottenham Hotspur could be set to reunite Antonio Conte with one of his favourite old players if reports are to be believed…

What’s the latest?

According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante could be set to make a sensational switch to north London to join up with the Italian once more.

Moretto took to Twitter to claim:

“N'Golo Kanté is a profile that Antonio Conte likes a lot. Tottenham could be a rival to Barcelona in the race for the midfielder whose contract expires in June 2023”

The Frenchman will be available on a free this summer as his £290k-per-week deal comes to a close, which is when Lilywhites sporting director Fabio Paratici could strike.

He is Conte’s dream

Having signed him from Leicester City whilst manager of the Blues, his technical director, Michael Emenalo, at the time claimed: “He is a perfect fit in terms of Antonio Conte's philosophies and the style of football he wants to play.”

This link-up could once again become a possibility, and if they could somewhat overcome his injury struggles then he could be the catalyst for unbridled success at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

When fit, he is widely recognised as one of the best and most influential players of his era.

Offering relentless running in midfield, his former manager and Premier League legend Frank Lampard dubbed him “world-class”.

This is exemplified through the fact that he not only ranks in the top 6% for blocks, 12% for tackles and 16% for interceptions but also ranks in the top 9% for progressive passes completed, via FBref.

He breaks up play with ease, using his slight frame to swoop in and steal possession, but then boasts the quality to set his team away to counter.

Feeding the likes of Heung-min Son and Harry Kane - who likes to drop deeper to receive the ball - could be a dream for the Frenchman.

Kante's exploits at Chelsea, where he won nearly all there is to win, even led journalist Jai McIntosh to dub him a “club legend”.

Were he to move to Spurs and help push them closer to their goal of winning a trophy, he could soon hold that status at two clubs. It could be a dream for Conte, who would likely love a reunion with Kante, so Paratici must get to work to get this over the line in 2023.
