Predicted Spurs XI, latest team & injury news vs Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur are back in Premier League action this afternoon as they welcome last season’s runners-up Liverpool to north London.

Antonio Conte’s side have hardly looked convincing in recent weeks but have still managed to keep hold of third place in the standings, some ten points clear of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

In midweek, the Lilywhites needed a last-minute goal from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to secure top spot in their Champions League group, though it came at a cost as Heung-min Son has been ruled out of domestic action until after the World Cup.

A range of mounting injuries has stopped the Italian head coach from rotating his starting lineup as much as he probably would have liked, so we’re surely in line to see a similar-looking XI today.

Here’s how we expect Spurs to start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Hugo Lloris will continue as Conte’s usual no.1 between the sticks and he could be heralded by the same back three as Tuesday night, meaning Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet is sandwiched between Eric Dier (right) and the versatile Ben Davies (left).

There’s no place for Davinson Sanchez after he lasted just 57 minutes in the 3-2 win over AFC Bournemouth last weekend, whilst Cristian Romero is unavailable due to injury.

Then out wide, Emerson Royal is likely to return on the right, with Ryan Sessegnon keeping his place on the other flank – that’s because Ivan Perisic seems an ideal candidate to be pushed forward to feature in the front three.

The Croatian veteran was a natural winger before Conte converted him into a wing-back at Inter Milan.

With Son and Richarlison injured and doubts over Lucas Moura’s fitness, there’s surely a place for the 6 foot 1 star – who journalist Oliver Young-Myles once lauded as a “monster” – next to Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski, who is available after returning from his own injury problems.

It would be a gargantuan call for the Italian to make but the ‘Deki’s’ presence in the final third has been sorely missed and he’ll be needed in a game of this calibre, so he could be the second and final change.

Both Rodrigo Bentancur and Hojbjerg should continue as the two-man tandem in the engine room, despite Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp pushing for starts.
