And Alderweireld, rated at £27m by Transfermarkt, has taken to Twitter to comment on the major decision, sending his best wishes to anyone who may have been affected by the global pandemic.
The Belgium international has been a key member of the Spurs squad thus far this season.
He has made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal, with Spurs currently eighth in the Premier League table.
They will be aiming to cut the gap to Chelsea when the league resumes; they are eight points behind at the time of suspension.
