Tottenham Hotspur have quietly gone about their business this summer bringing in three new signings for a total of £30m.

It's actually been rather shrewd from both Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho as they've filled the defensive midfield void with a £15m move for former Saints captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, which is offset by £12m after sending Kyle Walker-Peters going in the other direction.

Whilst defensively, Matt Doherty has come in from Wolves, also for £15m, as well as free-agent Joe Hart, who comes in as Michel Vorm's replacement.

However, the north Londoners are yet to find a successor to Jan Vertonghen after he swapped Spurs for Benfica. There's also no guarantee about the future of Juan Foyth either, so perhaps a centre-back should be high on the agenda.

But Mourinho may just need to look at his own squad to fulfil that as he's got the next Ledley King or Sol Campbell in waiting - Japhet Tanganga.

We saw glimpses of the 21-year-old last season and he was rewarded with a mega five-year extension back in July.

In seven starts across the Premier League and Champions League, Tanganga averaged 4.3 clearances, 2.7 aerials won, 2.4 tackles and 1.6 interceptions, via WhoScored, and that's despite playing pretty much everywhere along the backline.

Central, on the left and on the right. He played all three positions in those seven matches.

After his PL debut, Mourinho claimed the 6-foot colossus played "amazingly" and was "fantastic" against Liverpool while Alan Hutton lauded Tangana as a "quality player" who is "one for the future" to Football Insider.

King is now in as an assistant to the Portuguese boss, so there's not a better time to mould the Spurs graduate into a similar player but given his aggressive nature and imposing stature, he could well become the new Campbell.

They'll just have to hope that he doesn't follow that career path entirely, although his agent has hinted at a move this week, and instead stay in north London ala King himself.
