In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former Tottenham defender Graham Roberts has warned Jose Mourinho about repeating his Kevin De Bruyne mistake with Dele Alli.

Mourinho managed De Bruyne during his second spell as Chelsea boss back in the 2013/14 season, but he barely used the Belgian playmaker before allowing him to leave the club.

De Bruyne has since gone on to become arguably the best player in the country, with the 29-year-old winning the PFA Player of the Year award last year, and Roberts believes his example should serve as a warning to Mourinho as he continues to overlook Alli.

On the England international, who is finding starts hard to come by at Tottenham, Roberts told FFC:

"What I'm frightened of is that, what Jose did at Chelsea, letting [Mohamed] Salah go, letting De Bruyne go, two of the best players in the world at the moment.

"Is he going to do that with Dele Alli? Is he going to do that with other players and we lose them and they go on to be superstars?"

Paris Saint-Germain were said to be interested in Alli back in January, so perhaps France and a reunion with former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino await the attacking midfielder in the summer if his situation in north London does not improve.
