Tottenham Hotspur are back in Europa League action later this evening but ahead of kick-off, Jose Mourinho has suffered a major blow to his squad.

Speaking ahead of the tie, the Special One revealed that he would be without first-choice left-back Sergio Reguilon for their trip to Bulgaria, where they'll face bottom of Group J, Ludogorets.

He said (via Football.London):

"Reguilon is ill but not a Covid situation, just flu and we don't want him to be with the team."

The 23-year-old has been rather impressive since joining the club in a deal worth £25m from La Liga outfit Real Madrid this summer, he has started six of seven matches in all competitions.

It's also two assists from three starts in the Premier League alone. Reguilon has also averaged two key passes, 1.7 tackles, one shot and 0.7 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

According to former Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, the Spaniard has "hit the ground running." He told Football Insider: "When you see the attacking prowess that he has, his recovery speed etcetera, that is everything that you want from a new player coming into your team. It’s so pleasing for the manager when that happens, when you’ve bought a new player and he’s fitted in straight away."

It means Ben Davies is surely in line to start instead, which should be of massive concern to the Spurs faithful watching from home as he's just not lived up to the same standards whenever he's featured.

Across both domestic and European competitions, the long-serving Welshman is yet to manage above 0.8 tackles, 0.5 dribbles and one key pass per game, via WhoScored.

He's certainly the weaker of the two options for Mourinho.

Not to mention that Reguilon is quickly becoming a favourite in the dressing room - Alasdair Gold revealed last month that "everyone loves him" and that he has "incredible confidence."

Spurs are much stronger with the €50m-rated (£45m) dynamo bombing down that left-flank, so it's a certainly killer blow ahead of tonight.
