Spurs: Predicted XI, team & injury news vs Marseille

Tottenham Hotspur head into a make-or-break Champions League fixture on Tuesday night, with Antonio Conte’s side requiring a point against Olympique de Marseille in order to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

And, with Spurs currently being on something of an inconsistent run of form – winning one, drawing one and losing two of their last four fixtures in all competitions – the 53-year-old Italian will undoubtedly be hoping his side can carry the momentum of Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 comeback win against AFC Bournemouth into tonight’s clash.

However, with a number of key players unavailable as a result of injury, Conte has a few big decisions to make regarding both his starting XI and formation ahead of the fixture in southern France.

So, will the Italian tactician make any changes to the side that started the victory at the Vitality Stadium last weekend? Here’s how we at Football FanCast think Tottenham could line up against Marseille, as well as the latest team and injury news…

Predicted Tottenham XI: Lloris; Sanchez, Dier, Lenglet; Doherty, Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Perisic; Gil, Kane, Son.

With Cristian Stellini revealing in the pre-match press conference that Spurs will be without all three of Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison for the trip to Marseille, we predict that Conte will make five changes to the team that started against Bournemouth on Saturday – as well as switching back to a 3-4-3 formation.

The first of these alterations comes at the back, with Eric Dier being reinstated in the heart of Conte’s defensive trio, while Clement Lenglet moves over to left centre-back and Davinson Sanchez once again starts in place of the absent Romero – with Ben Davies having to make do with a spot on the bench.

At what age did Kane make his debut for Tottenham?

There are a further two changes at wing-back, with the “shocking” – in the words of Olatomiwa Tobi – Emerson Royal dropping out of the XI after yet another disappointing display last time out, with the 23-year-old being replaced by Matt Doherty, while Ivan Perisic also comes in for Ryan Sessegnon.

In the middle of the park, match-winner Rodrigo Bentancur deservedly returns to the XI alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, while both Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp make way.

The final change comes in attack, with Bryan Gil – who Jordan Campbell dubbed “unbelievable” – being handed his first start of the season, alongside stalwarts Son Heung-min and Harry Kane in a three-man front line.
