Spurs dealt blow as Wolves injury news emerges

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has reason to be concerned heading into this afternoon’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers

What’s the latest?

Spurs welcome the Midlands outfit to north London for a lunchtime kickoff and the visitors have been boosted by some positive injury news ahead of kick-off.

The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has revealed that both Raul Jimenez and Joao Moutinho are in contention to feature after returning to training in midweek.

Both players have missed Wolves’ opening two matches against Leeds United and Fulham, where they are yet to pick up a victory.

‘Their return to first-team contention further bolsters Wolves’ squad after the recent signings of Matheus Nunes and Goncalo Guedes,’ the reliable journalist wrote.

Setback for Conte

Tottenham have their own injury concerns as Cristian Romero has been ruled out of the match, meaning the Italian head coach will be enforced into at least one change defensively.

Disrupting that backline has the potential to cause trouble, particularly as it’s Davinson Sanchez who is likely to come in for the aggressive Argentine.

And it’s even more troubling as Wolves have their star striker back involved.

The Mexico international has a very impressive record against Spurs, which only adds to the worry. In six head-to-head matches, he has found the net four times, has provided two assists and been on the winning side 50% of the time, as per Transfermarkt.

In his absence, Wolves have struggled for goals, scoring just once in their opening two games. They failed to find the net against newly-promoted Fulham and also currently rank seventh-worst in the top-flight for shots per game (11).

His return represents a big boost for their manager Bruno Lage and that means it’s a frustrating setback for Conte, given his defensive conundrum.

As such, the Italian will surely be worried heading into kickoff this afternoon.

AND in other news, Conte “wants” £50m “lethal playmaker”, he’s a true heir to £150k-p/w “wizard”
